SiberianDVM
It looks like I will soon need some 17" wheels to fit our 1989 Toyota Supra, since there is no decent 245/45-16 rubber anymore. Will be running 245/40-17 square setup. Looking on TireRack, the widest 17" wheels to fit are 8", 45mm offset. Obviously looking to save money, but also obviously need something to stand up to the abuse. Any recommendations to brand and model of wheels? Gearhead_42
I have 17x9 STR wheels as my backup on the Nissan, they've proven quite durable. Mine were around $620 shipped for four. For a little more look at Rota, they'll run you 800. That said if you shop around you could get a set of RPF1s for just over $1k. And yes, the weight difference is appreciable. What's your bolt pattern and offset? The S197 Mustangs use 17x9 regularly, if their offset works for you.
Ian
What tire rack says will fit, and what will actually fit with a little elbow grease are very different. Get on the supra forums and see what you can actually fit. rota makes great cheap wheels. werun Square wheels on our car, 17 X 9, they're like $500 a set. Get them on enjukuracing.com

Get them on enjukuracing.com Those are probably a good option too, definitely considered them when I ended up with the STRs. Brief googling looks like you need similar fitment to me, so look into big 300ZX and/or smallish 350Z applications. I can fit 17x10 on the rear, front needs a spacer to clear the strut. 17x9 can run totally square with no issues, look at a 22-30 offset or thereabouts. Use that rims-n-tires online fitment calculator, it leads to all sorts of mischief with offsets and tire heights Keep in mind your caliper clearance as well, the G33 Square wheel (for example) clears my brakes, but the G6 in identical offset does not... SiberianDVM
Going from a 245 tire on a 16" x 8" wheel with 50mm offset, which fits well, to a 17" x 9" wheel, my calculation comes to a 45mm offset to avoid fender issues. About the same on a 8" wheel. Looked at the SQUARE brand, but offset is 15mm.

Snake
check www.nlmotoring.com for wheels. They run some really good specials sometimes.
Bremsen
XXR wheels (527s) is another cheap/decent option. We run the 17x9 CobraR wheels at the moment (17x9 et24, I think) and yes they're cheap and strong, but heavy (24lbs/corner). Going to switch as soon as funds allow. http://www.willtheyfit.com/ is a good site to check wheel/tire fitment before/after.

Perhaps the offset is a bit different on the 4 bolt wheels, which is what we have. Ours weighed about 23-24 lbs. each. edit: Yes, it appears the offset (and centerbore) is different between the 4 bolt and 5 bolt Cobra R wheels. 17x9 Black 03 Cobra Replica Rim (94-04) 17x9 Black 03 Cobra Replica Rim (94-04) Price: $129.00 Product ID : 102679652 Size & Specs SIZE: 17x9 OFFSET: +25 millimeters BACKSPACE: 5.98 inch CENTERBORE: 70.6 millimeters FINISH: Black with Mirror Lip

Thanks, Ed. Like I said, those things seem to fit everything! Again, what year /model do you run? I am @ the parts store all the time, they will pull a rotor for me to look at if asked. In case anyone is wondering, "Infinite" was a one race typo
SiberianDVM
1989 Toyota Supra. The el cheapo EBC Yellow Stuff pads we put on after the CarboTech failure held up well. Our rotors look good, I think, but I was too darned tired today to do much more than drive home and unload the car. She did NOT want to idle after getting cold and wet overnight. SiberianDVM
How much difference in performance would I notice between a 23 lb wheel (XXR 531) and a 27 lb wheel (Cobra)? Enough to justify $560 for 4 shipped vs. $473?
wvumtnbkr
So a difference of 90$ over the life of the wheels? Would you even notice 90$ on a race weekend? 16 lbs is a GOOD bit.

TiredBirds
You could try C5 Corvette wheels. The fronts I believe are 17x8...8.5" We use C4 17x0 saw blades. both are pretty cheap. We paid $200 a set for ours. I sold the center caps and lug covers for $
wvumtnbkr
Im still pushing for 15"s. They are better in every way (as long as they fit). Corvettes have a difference bolt pattern.

jboylan
While we are on the topic of 17s, and to avoid making a new thread of nearly the same question. We are looking for some 17x8.5 or 9 wheels in 5x112. 66.6mm bore but we can use adapters or something. Something like +35 offset would probably be best for no spacers. Can't seem to find much, let alone stuff that's lightweight. Anyone have any direction? The goal is to run 245/40-17 or 255/40-
