Chieftain32
that pace lap was lol. i think i gained 3 spots before the green dropped. chill out, guys. not sure who it was, but i might owe an apology to whoever rear ended me heading into the pits towards the end of the race. i took the brunt of it but i didn't use any hotkey signals and i might have jumped on the brakes too hard coming in. sucked it happened, but my PC froze on my outlap after getting towed so it didnt matter much in the end. street stock is fun on this track, total bull in a china shop. dvot
Anyone have video of what went down on the pace lap. Anyway we can learn from this. I've done 5 of these league events now and I've now been hit before the green flag 3 times out of those 5. Is there anyway to slow down the pace car? I dunno. I'm just incredulous this keeps happening. I'm debating starting from the pits at this point. I'm not fast enough to run up front, I'm just trying to be consistent and keep it on the track and stay out of folks way the best I can while I learn. Technical Advisory Committee NigelStu Posted February 9, 2018 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted February 9, 2018 I can try to pull it tonight as long as the offenders were within the range of cars I had displayed. Pretty sure I have the # of cars displayed up to 65. I would be willing to bet it was a combination of accordion-affect of some cars trying to warm up tires/brakes (I do, it seemed that others around me were as well), combined with mid/end of pack trying to catch up right about when pace car gathers the field and the whole front end bunches up. Too much speed in the back trying to bunch up. Perhaps we can go with a rule of thumb on this - only do tire/brake warm-up things for the 1st 1/2 lap, give space to fellow competitors to do so, then bunch up (carefully). Overall I'm pleased with my progress in this iRacing thing. Qualified much better than I have been with a pretty solid lap, had a good start, stayed out of trouble in 1st couple of laps. Got side-bumped by an SS car early on (I'd call it an unfortunate racing incident where the SS car probably couldn't see me and tracked out of turn 6 into my door. Mass wins every time, don't mess with the SS cars in a Miata!), then ran some solid mostly clean laps and managed to crawl myself back up to 6th with an awesome back-and-forth battle with Christopher (we both took ourselves off the track/spun, so kept it interesting) through the last half of the race. Only to discover I made a calculation effort (ok, bad guess...) on the pit stop. last week 4 gallons was way too much, this week 2 gallons was 2 laps short.... Looked at time left and thought maybe it would be best to pull into pits and let Wyatt pass me and then pull across the line for checker. Unfortunately the Alien is much too fast and was able to run 2 additional laps instead of the 1 more I figured, and while sitting in the pits, just before the line, the engine stopped, completely out of fuel which dropped me down the order a bunch. Hindsight, I should have just put a gallon in and headed back on track. Oh well. If I can only figure out how much fuel to add I might start doing better... Fun stuff. Racing seems to be getting cleaner which is good. Obviously with the start and early laps (and late laps?) more awareness throughout the field would be good. Wyatt
Well, I had an interesting evening last night. I started the race and after 20 minutes my wheel loses its center. I could describe it as some one constantly adjusting the toe. I had to turn the wheel 30 degrees to the left by half way through the race. Very disconcerting. During the pit stop I took some extra time to recalibrate the wheel. Worked for a few minutes then it went again. So I looked up my problem online, took my whole wheel apart and tried a fix. Put it back together and made the Pacific practice race with 15 or so minutes to spare. Alas, I made it about the same distance in that race before it happened again. Well it looks like it's time for me to buy a new wheel. My G27 had a good run of about 6-7 years.
hcsi99
I'm rather new to iracing (if my driving didn't show that) but a little over halfway through the race all of the cars started glitching. At one point I let the first place car go by and he came over the radio and said he never even saw me there. Wyatt was coming up behind me next so I stayed on the racing line but lifted so he could easily get by. He end up running into the back of my car and punting me off track. I think he may not have seen me either. I don't race on WiFi and seem to have good internet (comcast) . Any ideas?

I bought one of these http://cmlaserservice.com/index.html and it fixed it. I ended up switching to a thrustmaster after awhile but I m heard you aliens like the G27s and that’s why they cost $900 new on amazon.
n0m4d
This past race, the pace lap was the worst I've seen. I saw a car spin off in T4, came across another car sideways in T6, was rear ended hard and spun in T7 and watched two cars fighting? in between T10-11. The 3rd week of Atlanta, during the pace lap, I got nailed from behind so hard i needed repairs, as I was pitting a car cut across the grass and lodged itself sideways at pit in, blocking the entrance. The following week i just drove off track and let everyone pass when it went green. I'm not really sure what is so difficult about this.

Running with Trahan was fun too while it lasted. Yup - awesome close racing, and I feel appropriate racing room left by each of us - that is the way it is supposed to be! Good back and forth with position swaps to. After I got by you the 1st time, I grabbed too much brake with the car loaded going into that fast sweeper before hairpin, car rotated more than expected and I just clipped inside, gave me a 'cut course, slow down 1.2 seconds penalty'. Grrrr. Then I saw you go off, was hoping you'd stay off the wall and continue the battle. And then I promptly lost the back-end in the same sweeper as before but somehow (got super lucky on that one, based on my various remodeling attempts during practice in that spot) managed to miss all the walls and got out of the racing line before anyone came up. Lost a bunch of time, nearly poo'd my armor and figured I was relegated to finish behind you, then noticed you were a bit off pace with some funny looking body work... More racing like that is required! (minus the running out of talent moments. and running out of fuel... I need to fire my crew chief for that one.) MPRLkld
Completely agreed, that's the way it should be. So much fun! I look forward to more of it next week, of course without the talent relapses and much more fuel. Not going to make the same mistake that I did for Road Atlanta... longer race, more fuel. Matt Ragsdale
Last Thursday was the first time i ever even loaded up Sonoma and was so scared id look like a fool in the league but man this track/combo has been so fun. Managed ithink 4th overall last night? Big difference in how to manage a lap with last weeks warm weather vs cooler temps yesterday. Really like this track, and is the only track on our schedule i needed to learn prior to racing. Always fun racing with you guys! If my weeks get a little easier i may try and hit both the east and west coast sessions but for now the east coast ones count me in every thursday. Technical Advisory Committee NigelStu Posted February 10, 2018 Technical Advisory Committee Report Share Posted February 10, 2018 LOLOLOLOL - ROFLMFAOUIPM! I just watched the pace lap of my replay. I got it ALL (well, mostly. that dang fog gets in the way of the fun blimp/chopper cams.....) So there was what appeared to be an equipment failure (straight off a corner), and there were a couple of over-enthusiastic moves with cold tires (waaaaaaayyyy to deep into 4, little too much speed on outside of 6 followed by dropping a tire outside of 6. and then.... 2 guys started moving through the field.... Does anyone remember the youtube star "I was 7th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Yeah 2, I SAY TWO of you guys pulled that shiz. The pile up in last turn was completely due to that. Totally putting Ian and Conner on blast here. Conner, you got lucky that your moves through the field didn't cause a wreck. Ian... well, you know what happened.... Treat this just like real racing. Sure you qualified in xx spot. but if you F up at any point in the pace lap and lose position, even if its not your fault... Sorry, but where you (safely, please) come back on track after getting forced off or having a momentary laps of talent, that is your new starting position. And really, if you end up out of line, off course, etc, you should realy just sit there and wait for a clear re-entry (aka, BACK of the pack). Remember, Pace laps are FCY. and what does FCY mean class? Thats right - NO passing!!!!!! I don't care if the little man in the computer box is telling you to keep up with the #10 car, just follow the one in front of you and wait for the green..... Pace laps are for getting ready - you , your car, your tires. be considerate of your fellow racers.

After working all day and coming home to miss dinner with my family so I can take full advantage of as much practice and qualifying as possible for 2 hours only to get taking out on he pace lap. I was a little upset because time is something I don’t have a lot of. If the video would have kept playing you could have heard me quickly catch myself being that “I was 7th” guy and tell the guy that caused the crash no worries, they’re only pixels. I still had fun once my car was fixed and after a few months I feel I’m getting better. Hell I used to be happy just finishing the race! Now I shoot for the top 15. Baby steps. Next time I assure you I will ignore the computer voice saying 'PASS XXX' and stay put... that was traumatizing AF. I was more worried about cars behind me not being in the right spot than worrying about over-driving and hurting other folks chances. I've been doing the iracing thing for the past few months and that was by far the most embarrassing and awful experience to date...

On the bright side though I did manage to take the checkered flag this week instead of crashing out. I have much work to do on my replay capture skill but here's the pace lap from the back of the pack.

n0m4d
@WastedAccounts You basically captured everything I saw. At around 1:30 I'm the white/green/black car that gets reamed by #21 from behind out of nowhere. I had no idea what happened. I mistook the later contact between you and that car as something more mutual but I can see that's not the case now. Hopefully next week we can get the pace lap situation under control because the actual racing has been fun and generally well driven. Also, Jack in the #43 Street Stock, you need to fix your internet connection! Seriously man, every race you are disappearing/reappearing and bouncing all over the track. I dread coming dealing with you on track because I just don't know what to do.

This does seem to be a real issue. Then again maybe it emulates a true champcar race. You always have that broke ass car that is out just to be out, driving with 2” of toe out, no transponder, down a cylinder, and smoking.
