Brainerd is upon us!

And welcome to the double header Brainerd Challange at Brainerd International Raceway!

First, as always, please read through the Supplemental Rules here. There's lots of good information and the answer to many questions can be found there.

Most of you have run this track and this specific event before, so you kind of know the drill. However, there will be a few changes you should note.

First. Like many tracks Brainerd is changing their gate security procedures. We plan to have someone at the gate to help process teams in, but you'll need to sign in with security before going to your paddock.

On the topic of arriving. Please do not rush to get there too early. Our load-in time starts at 12:00 noon. There's another event running in the morning and arriving early will only cause congestion.

Second. Registration will be located in the Competition Course Paddock area. We have not yet determined where Tech and Registration will be, but we will have it set-up and posted when you begin arriving.

You will need to take your car through Tech inspection before coming to Registration. If you have a current Annual Tech you can come straight to Registration, otherwise you must go through Tech first. Only one member (preferably the Team Captain) needs to come through Registration.

Drivers can bring their safety gear to Gear Check at any time.

Third. Please check your team's membership status. Some drivers have expired memberships. It will greatly speed up the registration process if memberships and team registrations are fully paid up.

Novice / Champ School. You must attend this meeting Friday if you have never raced wheel-to-wheel before, or never raced with ChampCar before. If you have new members on your team, or if you have not raced with ChampCar this year you are encouraged to attend. Look at it this way, the more we discuss things on Friday, the shorter the driver's meeting on Saturday.

Still reading, wondering about you Pit Assignments?

Well wonder no more... You're Pit Assignments are here.

The plan is to use the same pit space number designations for both Saturday and Sunday. We will mark out and number the pit spaces on the wall. I have left a few open spaces. With some luck these will line up with some of the gaps and openings along the wall on the Comp Course. It should also leave us some room for flexibility with the openings. For some of you down near pit-out I had to shift your pit over one space.

One more time if you want to print out the Supplemental Rules for this event here.

If you have any questions about the Brainerd race please email me here.

All the best -
Your ChampCar Staff

I will say it...........Donnybrook turn 1= the best corner in champcar, buckle up, keep it on the floor and pray it holds.  Here's to all the teams attending this years race at Brainerd.  Buckle up buttercup, and hang on!

PS. yes I've been to cota, yes I've been to Watkins, yes I've been to mid Ohio, yes, I've been to Road America, just to name a few.

I have been thinking about this one.

Are you going to Utah?  You could hang out with us, we have a couple of old time racers racing with us here, should be fun-hopefully.

One of the teams I often race with is going to Utah, I was not planning on attending that race.

If we don't destroy the car at Nelson Ledges, I wonder if the team could be talked into this?

Otherwise I'll probably try to show up and volunteer.  Would be a shame to miss the race at our "home track"

The car count at this track is always in the danger zone. If you wait for "next year" there might not be one :(

I am aware of the struggles, but a 24 has been a bucket list item of mine since before I had a drivers license.  Which is why we chose to potentially skip BIR to focus on Nelson Ledges.  Its also why Ill be doing my best to at least be there as a volunteer.

Looks like Brainerd will be the inaugural race for the new car.  Last year went pretty well with the new-to-us car, so hopefully we can repeat the 2nd day a couple of times...  :)

What is the min car count for an event?

My person guess, about 20 to break even. I don't think this event would get cancelled, but obviously they aren't going to put on losing events year after year.

Honestly, I'm mostly just trying to help encourage people to enter the race that's closest to me.

Same mindset we have about Gingerman.

Sure wish we had better participant numbers at these great tracks in order to keep them on the schedule!

So been thinking about the tracks we run and timing of other events. Might not make any difference but to me it seems maybe running Road America once a year

and looking at other tracks like maybe Autobahn or Hastings among a few others. Does not help that everyone has to choose between all the 24's or one of the Brainerd/Gingerman.

Thoughts and yes I know I am hijacking this thread so feel free to reply or not.

Hey, Thunderhill only had 15 and they ran it!  The competition course is such a fun track to drive I wish they would just run it both days, but I understand the history of the Donneybrooke and the unbelievable opportunity that we are getting by being allowed to run it.  That front straight is LONG!!!!!

We are looking forward to this event and its loooooooong straight (and the following banked corner)! Any words of advise for this course?

Competition course, watch out for the dip on drivers right of the front straight it can unsettle the car and send you into the wall, ask me how I know.... Also, be mindful of turn 13? end of the front straight on the competition course.  EVERY YEAR someone locks up breaks and goes into someone else as this is a seriously slow corner and with hot used brakes can be a scary spot.  The high speed kink is really fun and you need to build up to it.

The Donneybrooke, in my opinion, was a bit boring just because it is more top speed based as opposed to handling and we were in an underpowered car.  That said, going through turn 1 will test your nerve every time.  Also, be careful going under the bridge, older pavement and if you lose grip you will go into the hill side.  Lastly, the last turn before the front straight can cause you issues if you go to low and cause you to spin as well.  The pits for this part of the track are mainly old blacktop and grass and no power so plan for that.

I really love this track and wish more teams would come race there, unfortunately with the touristy area hotels are a bit pricey and now the ordinance that we can't start before 9 am kind of blows.  Hopefully I will be cleared to drive this event and not be relegated to the sidelines.

This is going beyond everything I believe in.
