The creep is real.

FWIW, I wonder what ChampCar would look like if they reset the series today.  Just as a thought experiment, in 2019, what does "bring a $500 car and run it" look like vs. what it looked like in 2008?

I get a lot of people have a lot of money invested in platforms, but freezing the series in the 80s/90s isn't healthy either in the long term.

I agree it is not healthy to freeze everything, or you have SCCA style racing where everyone runs some old crappy car like a sprite, or a 1984 Honda CRX or a 70s datsun because it is the dominant car for the class.

No worries and no, but I did ride in it.  Was this back in the 80s when you drove it?

I admit that it was a clapped out e28 M5 which was obviously not showing its peak potential.  I only made the point because I worry that people who think that an e30 should have a higher point value than an MR-2 will see "M6" and bring out the anti-BMW pitchforks again.

Anyway, carry on...

That is unfortunately the nature of the beast in member-managed organizations, especially when budgets are limited.  Change is difficult because everyone is invested.

So they sourced an M5 motor, wiring harness and ecu for less than the $1,500 swap limit to be able to run C instead of EC?

I guess right place at the right time...

I think you are taking his words entirely out of context....  He was referring to the comment about freezing Champcar at the level we were at a few years ago and what it would look like.

There is no BMW content in his post...

No, I was just pointing out that you quoted somebody that was responding to a totally different subject than your response.

I am not trying to poo on your wheaties.  Just pointing out that I think you misread his comments.

Also, I dont think I pointed out any grammer issues recently.

Im actually in a pretty good mood!

Just try to be positive and help out every now and then and your mood improves wonderfully!

You’re right,  a series has to float along with the times.   I think it’s a pretty tricky process, that is made harder for a series like ours that is trying to make a wide variety of cats competitive for an overall win.   At some point cars from the 80’s and 90’s just won’t work against newer cars.  Like  now it’s pretty rare that something from the 70’s works well.   The difference is there aren’t tons of cars from the 70’s being raced now, and being faced with throwing away the car and starting over.   As our cars get tired or wrecked a team like ours would be smart to look hard at building something newer next time to move into the future with.  That’s how I think anyway

One might want to consider the alternative before bashing the rules system. It's kind of like the capitalism, not perfect but the best we have. Personally I consider all of the other index based series socialism...

A $70,000 car is a fraction compared to some teams tow rigs and equipment and those teams know just as well as anyone that someone can show up with a car on a single axle trailer and a van full of spares and take the overall.

-that is racing-

Turbo Cats are all in EC  sorry..... Unless its a mid-engine toyota turbo cat then its like 1 point.  ;)

I'm hear for your entertainment.   The real cool part is I sorta proof read posts and still miss at least one stupid thing on each one.

I wasn't really trying to bash the rules - I think ChampCar has the right formula, or I'd be racing somewhere else.  Its just that when someone complains that the new rules made their 1982 tunaslapper uncompetitive, sometimes that's a good thing.
