Just got off the phone with Tire Rack, no firm date for the return of RS4s. Need an alternate for Road Atlanta.

Options seem to be...

BFG Rival
Nexan NFera

Maxxis VR1

Federal 595RS-RR (if they can be sourced)

In the post-race interview, @Team Infiniti said that the Maxxis tires worked very well for them on Sunday.

Straight answer about Maxxis

They work, we have podium with them a few times, no other baseline but on a heavy car they are done after 14 hrs

Dis they get squirrelly when hot?  I've seen them chunk apart the tread blocks.

Too bad this didn't come up on Saturday when I was in the 46 pit.  We've run the VR1s in 205 and 245 on our E30.  Barber 2017 we had the 205s and the left front was blistered and junk in 6 hours, no doubt from over driving 2&3.  I bet you could make them last if you take care of them in 7 and 10a.  The 245s were run for a double 7 when we went to Road America and were pretty grippy.  But after one weekend 2 of them had no real tread left.  They looked like slicks.  I really miss DZ2s.

We got lucky to get a set of RS4s but everything I've heard is that they suck in the cold if they can't get and maintain heat.  We all know how cold early February is at Road Atlanta...

225/45/15 is preferred, 205/50 would be an alternate.

I have some 225/45/15 rs4’s I know one is still a sticker an possibly a hole set of stickers I’ll look tomorrow for you.  They are mounted on 4x100 15x8’s though.  I switched to 245’s this year and kept the 225 Incase I had issues with the 245’s.

We'll be running RS4's on the Cobra at Road Atlanta next month. Hopefully we can get enough heat into them.

Because of the unavailability of RS4's in the size needed for our Mazda, we'll be running RE71R's.

Definite maybe.  We got about 7 hours at barber before we corded the front left.  If its cold enough and they pace well I could see a set maybe making it.  6 Tires would be a safe bet.

Not sure. We ran RE71r's at Sebring on the Cobra and didn't feel confident to run them on day 2. But the Mazda is a much lighter car and Road Atlanta is relatively easy on tires compared to Sebring.

FYI - our favorite sponsor is now showing a few RS4 sizes as available on March 5th that were previously unlisted.

I placed an order online last week and they immediately called me back to say there were no tires in stock yet...but that they hoped to have them sometime in March.

Tire rack anticipates RS4's in stock the week of March 11-15.  I got my name on a set of 225/45-15's specifically, but I'd imagine it bodes well for many other sizes.

I spoke with Ethan at ext 4689
