@Scottw58

Are you running 17 inch wheel. What tire do you recommend?  What about wet weather tire? We need all new tires. Our road Atlanta selection was rear 275/40r 17 federal rsrr on 9 inch wheel. Front was 245/40r17 Kumo 200 treadwear. These seemed good until the left front wore out.  Then we only had some all seasons left to put on the front. Then sure noticed under steer. This tire set up seemed a mistake when wet. Tens laps in at 85 mph at Barber the car hydroplaned at turned sideways and straight into the Armco. Knocked us out for the weekend. Would you move to narrow tire for the wet?

I can do akubono brake swap under the 2x rule but would have to replace all our wheels to 18". I won't go to that expense for performance reasons only as braking performance at road Atlanta was good. Our current brake set up requires brake pad change mid race. Maybe three times in charolett.

How much does your Infiniti weigh? We have to be close to 3000 lbs. What brakes do you use?

17x9 wheels all the way around

No wet tire, just buy dunlop direzza III (max width 255) or Hancook 4(wider available but 255 is max of what belongs on a 9 in wheel) , the LF tire in photo was worn out from the outside? It was pushing up T1, you need a little more camber

For your car, Application correct Brembo 4 pots, rock auto china copy $67/$75 core, carbotech pads...  Wilwood calipers may be cheaper in the long run w/pad selection

3200/3300 lbs wet with driver on the track, you likely weigh similar or more.

You need lots of brake cooling both front/rear.

2 races on these front pads.IMG_0379.thumb.JPG.6e6e481f1bb8f5d9bae9b8d66186e986.JPGIMG_0630.thumb.JPG.f3cfa9f42cdd54ef792fb3196404b31b.JPGIMG_0631.thumb.JPG.ec710c1d7b5b2eba58f5a21e93714a50.JPG

What the heck kinda pads are you running?

Invest in good track pads.  Invest in good matched tires on the smallest rim diameter and widest width you can find.  Then invest in a tire pyrometer.  That and some string for alignment is good enough to get the car handling quite well.

If you do all of the above, you will probably save money in the long run!  (Different wheels not necessary, but *could* be an advantage on some cars)

As far as wet tire performance is concerned, most teams don't take the time required to change them unless the race is gonna be wet the entire day.  Just run good matched tires with some tread.  Also, barber is horrible in the rain no matter what tire you are on!

Finally, I find it extremely beneficial to have your tires heat cycled first and the brake pads pre bedded.  Doesn't cost that much and definitely adds life to both.

On a 9 inch wheel, I would run a 245 at the biggest. Hankook rs4 last a long time, don't chunk, and provide really good grip.  They are the best bang for the buck.  Plus, they have won numerous races.

All good advice, bad news,  the smallest rim is a 17, good news, mustang wheels fit.

With this car being similar in many ways weight/power/auto, I can say one thing for sure, more tire is the answer, have had issues below 255

I agree with you on the more tire width is better.  Can you fit 10s or wider wheels under one of these beasts?

We ran stop tech sport pads front and rear at road Atlanta. The braking performance was good, they just did not last. Thanks for the tire suggestions. I have been filling all my tabs with tire web sites and getting kinda lost.

350Z track package rotors & calipers ( source calipers from rock auto) cheap but wont last 3 race

ST43 pads if you never want to replace them(pedal modulation may suck)

Uprev tune

Poly bushings

trans cooler(big)

valve body upgrade

Buy some decent tires

Source track package stock wheels - they are plenty wide and you wont be able to outdrive the rubber

I'd throw in paddle shifters with rev match software and call it a day.

I certainly don't by electrical parts unless it's the manufacturer's brand. I never had an issue with brake parts before. I got my track package brake from a coworker. He upgraded his street z and gave me his stock ones.

We send them back for warranty.  On the real Brembo's both the piston and bore are coated, but that is not the case with the remans.  The internal bore is raw aluminum with a coated hardened piston riding in it.  Not joking we are lucky to get 3- 8hr sessions out of them before we start the see piston bind or heavy bore wear.  I haven't dug into what Brembo uses on the piston or bore yet because we only do a limited number of races.

Curious from the picture of the trans apart on the table. Are you a trans builder?  Team Infiniti. By the way my name is Scott. If you mentioned your name  I missed it.

Not a builder, but being a master tech I am one heck of a helper!  I should be doing this myself, but when one of your friends is a retired master builder, it is nice having his confidence and speed...Raceday is no time to find a rookie assembly mistake.

Honestly, my friend has never even sat in the Infiniti, it takes us both to get it right.

Not sure if this helps but the Supra is heavy and similarly sized. 17x9 mustang cobra r replica wheels are CHEAP, like <$100 a set cheap. RS4s (245s) last longer than 2 race weekends and hold up well enough to be wet tires too if you drive well. We run Porterfield R4e (thicccccccc) pads on the front and R4s (thiccc) on the rear and they last 2+ races as well with only ducting on the fronts. Centric cheap rotors (<$20 a piece) as well, stock calipers.

I'm interested if you experience jack-hammering/warped rotors

RP2 has been nothing but a complete disaster, never tried blue, 43s in front didn't have enough bite, wrecked the rotors and melted my rear calipers

We get multiple races from front rotors w/carbotech, rear rotors are 3+yrs old

Hawk Blues 9012 with DBA or Frozen Rotors give us best pedal feel/stroke, wear and we can tell when we on verge of lock up (non abs car) no rotor warp issues with this set up. ST43 did produce a little warpage, and pedal feel was horrible. It was to easy to lock up tires, and there was no full stroke thru pedal range - it fluctuated (heat dependent I would guess).  We get 10hrs out of Blues and they are reasonably priced compared to the ST43 or RP2.

On the Fiero, Blues were good with nice feel and modulation and about 10 hours life. ST-43s reasonable feel but sticky, had to release quite a bit after lockup to get the tires rolling again but good life so far, probably about 30 hours potential.

ST-42s on the Civic seem good and get about 45 hours. Pricey though.

I feel the same way about building transmission for the race car. I am master tech as well and have two cars in my driveway that I have rebuilt autos and one rebuilt manual, but kinda feel like if I blow open the racecar unit for any reason it probably last about 4 hours and explode. Our team had a good friend lifetime building autos he passed away a couple years ago. Rest In Peace Eric we could have used your talents. Going to have to swap units out if we have a problem. Thanks for all the brake pad back and forth. Looks like I can take the good and the bad and save a lot of heartache. How about drilled and slotted rotors. I just obtained a set of rears for free. I read where some drilled rotors can crack around the drilled holes.
