So uh, I'm buying an engine in Canada. How to get it here?

Recommended Posts

I have found the holy grail engine for my car.  It's in Alberta Canada.

How do I get it to Fort Wayne Indiana, Detroit Michigan, Pittsburgh pa, or at least closer (within 10 hours of sc).

Shipping at one point was around $320.  It is now much closer to $600...

I have months before I actually need it here.

Any chance people would be willing to help move it along?

Any help or ideas are appreciated!

P.s. if the seller wants to jump in and name themselves, fine by me.  Some of you can already guess, I'm sure.

Possible connections:

1. Sonoma: might be some Alberta teams heading there (not sure we're going to make it after all but still trying) and could hand it off to an east coast team.

2. Road America: same story, might be able to hook up with someone heading that way.

3. Shipping company that picks up in Sweet Grass, Montana or somewhere along the road to Phoenix (yeah, I know some people who do the trip that might help out).

Let me know what seems to be the most promising (and a back-up plan) and we'll investigate. :)

Just checked the entry list.

The good news: NNM Motorsports from Saskatchewan is going to Road America

The bad news: they're about 7 1/2 hours east of me.

The sad news: they were at the most recent Castrol race just north of me three weeks ago. Could have made the hand-off then. :(

I have to work out of town for the next few days and Monday is our Thanksgiving. That essentially leaves one day to get the engine from my shop on Tuesday morning to Regina and into NNM's trailer in time to leave for Road America. Not sure it's doable but it might be worth a try! :)

Some Alberta wheat farmer is probably driving to their winter home in AZ in the next couple of months, if it was packed and labeled in such a way they could drop it off at a UPS depot on their way that might get it done.

@mcewena are you racing road america?

Is this a 3400 or 3500 motor? I'm guessing it's safe to say if this is not a local junkyard motor, considering the source it's coming from. LOL

Holy grail indeed!

I thought the reason for choosing that engine was being able to find one on every street corner for less than the cost of a 6-pack. Now you need a professional foreign engine builder to massage it, what happened?

Wow, first time I've been referred to as a foreigner! Really?

What happened is the Fiero moved on and up, and the old 3500 is sitting in the back corner of my shop. He asked, I replied, and he's willing to risk using an engine that I let the air into.

I have a spare one under one of my benches that I was given if anyone wants it but they're in every junkyard out there for peanuts, so not worth it unless you're just around the corner. No problem, I'll use that one as a jig to build Rob an ITB intake that'll bump the power up another 20 hp or so for 50 points. Something like this:

P.S. If you need a professional foreign engine builder to professionally massage your foreign car engine, send me a PM. :)

As mender stated, don't "need" it, but if a known good engine is not being used and just collecting dust, Imma try to get it!

If we can't get this done in time for road America, we will figure another way to get it.

The doom cruiser is planning to go to Sonoma. Then Daytona after.

My team will accept an average night out drinking in SC as payment. Like our average not your average.

You spelled Sebring wrong again.
