Rapido
Races are coming thick and fast in this part of the season, and we're off for a lovely weekend upstate at one of my favourite racing venues - Watkins Glen International. Back in our favourite Miata and running the entertaining "Boot" config for what will be a fun and close race. Be careful into the Bus Stop when making passes as the entry speed is quicker than you think! Good luck. mostmint
Leader stacked up the field, big charge creates 4 wide situation in turn 1, ends badly for many. Chris does enough to miss me but the net code decides otherwise and crunches in my RF suspension. Thank goodness for fast repair.
Jab31169
Yea, after me dodging 4 cars and getting back on track iRacing decided that I went from 4th to 3rd instead of 5th so I ended up in the pits anyways. Had fun digging back up the field. Touched a few walls towards the end and got the steering all wonky. See you guys next week.
mostmint
With Justin in P1 he was aggressive on the start and stretched out the field enough that we got through turn 1 clean. From there I was off to my best driving performance to date. Ran just outside the top 10 most of the race, did some drafting, side by side racing, with only one minor contact in turn 8. The fly in the ointment was crew chief short filled me. I was expecting a 3.2 gallon fill and it put in 2.1. I was concerned right away but I figured I could draft up enough savings. Spent the next 15-20 minutes drafting Peter Zhang to save fuel. It almost worked. With under 3 to go I could see I was still short so I backed it off and gave up several positions. When I got to white flag it said I had enough to make 1 lap, but it started sputtering before turn 9. Coasted in from there. Even so I ended 1:14 behind the leaders, which is just four seconds slower than my best, and I'm now in the top 10 in points.
Jab31169
Another sad report from me. WG is not my best track, I lose time in most of the corners. The bus stop is about the only spot I was quicker than anyone. Started mid-pack p15 I think, had some losing battles. A few laps in I got a late call about a car inside at one that sent me off and back on which caused me to take out the car that was inside. Apologies for that. Hit the tow button, took my gas (too much) and tires and went back out in p28. Stayed slow and clean the rest of the race, had a little battle for p22/23 at the end that I somehow was able to hold off. This is not my season. It was fun to see Alex finally has some worthy competition. Hopefully he finds him a seat in that miata of his at some point. Anywho, see you guys at Lime Rock. I need to hire an iRacing coach.
mostmint
@Jab31169How many laps are you putting in? Including the races themselves I average 400 laps per race for the last four races. I hadn't thought to count it before that. You might need less since you've been through this series longer but the Jetta and new tracks might need a bit more than your usual.
