Administrators Bill Strong Posted July 2, 2021 Administrators Report Share Posted July 2, 2021 I am using a cutdown Allstar Performance Xfinity cup car Lexan window for my Opel GT. Getting ready to start cutting. But need to get mounting sorted. The Opel uses the old 1960s way of mounting windows. But I am going to weld new mounting tabs around the window opening and am thinking of using these type of bolts to hold the window in place. Downsides? https://allstarperformance.com/countersunk-bolts-1-4in-w-1in-washer-50pk-all18632-50/
tommytipover
A little pricey, and the 1 inch OD on the washer might be a little overkill, but looks sexy...

petawawarace
For a windshield almost all the force is pushing it into the car. You don’t need big washers like that. But it won’t hurt anything either. I used 10-32 button head screws with the aluminum rivet washers under them. With a mix of nurserts and lock nuts holding them.
mhr650
Use some of the polyurethane window adhesive and the screws are just for decoration.
TimS
Late model stock car crowd use large head rivets. Personally I like to be able to remove the windshield so i used button head bolts and aircraft nut plates but riv-nut maybe easier.

I was going to do that. But due to the clown car size of this race car, it's easier to work on the interior if the window is removed. I was addicted to eBay NASCAR used parts sales when I was building the yellow MR2
kcbhiw
https://www.mcmaster.com/standard-washers/washer-type~countersunk/material~plastic/ I used counter sunk washers (95481A035)with matching bolts (91253A542)from McMaster spaced every 6 inches. The assembly has held up just fine for about 8 years so far.
