Nice work Troy @MR2 Biohazard. Glad to feel and see your excitement at being able to help!

Although some ideas aren't always well received,  your passion for improving the series and helping to grow and retain new teams is unquestionable.

I applaud your efforts. If it weren't for the mentoring we sought out and received from some awesome ChampCar members, racers and staff, we wouldn't be where we are - being out here and enjoying racing after being on the sidelines for many years.

Many of us Focus teams already network together, but I'm willing to help out any teams in any way possible.

My build experience is currently much stronger than race experience, having built chassis and roll cages for close to 2 dozen endurance, SCCA, and FIA Rally cars.

As my signature line describes, I was also fortunate enough to work side by side with a couple very successful professional race teams.

(edit: not on sig line, but I was a fabricator at Roush when they won Daytona about 11 times straight... then came Team Viper!! )

Let us know how we can help, as it's always rewarding to help someone avoid the pain and mistakes that can sometimes happen without proper guidance.

I can put you down on the list if a new Focus team comes in and needs some guidance or help. On the note about the Focus, come race the dang thing already. Just saying.

We did!  We just raced at Gingerman and Mid Ohio. @MR2 Biohazard i thought you might have seen that in the post race write-ups.

I was hoping to make it to Pittsburgh so you could see the car and tell me everything I did wrong!! 🤣

P.S. We were/are quite happy with the cars' performance after a long time rebuilding everything.

I'd be down to have a mentor.  Been building a VW for the past several years (goes slow when you work mostly solo).  Car is all but done and looking to race in the spring.  I'd love to be able to ask some questions to someone in the know.

Which VW are you racing?  What engine?

That’s a good way of putting it. Yeah, we brought it all right! We brought the goods.

Thanks TakJak2, Jason.

We have about a dozen mentors signed up now and made a few connections.

The next plan is to work on the Champcar website to put it out there with some details and contact information.  Then when the waive of people wanting to be mentors and mentees from that slows down then we can go public via social media. I do think a lot of people see FB and do not see the forum, especially new people.

This week I am going work on an expectation documents to share with mentors and mentees, but meant mainly for mentee's and what to hope for. Meaning, a mentor is not there to build your car, but to help with advise and guidance on a build and to help at the track the first time they come to a race.

Thanks to everyone who has offered to help as it is coming along now.

I was thinking about doing this, but then I just posted most everything I know about NCs in their thread.

What about writing a guide on how to build a fast ChampCar?

There are many ways to be a mentor, and I'd say writing a guide that benefits all teams is a great way.  The mentor program can also help ensure that newer teams see the document you write.

You could and might go something like this.

Chapter 1- read rules 3 to 10 times

Chapter 2- Get sawsaw and remove weight

Chapter 3- Get cutter and remove more weight

Chapter 4- Get grinder and remove more weight

Chapter 5- Do 100's of hours of sim racing

Chapter 6- Test Test Test

Chapter 7- Race
