Fuel Cell Capacity Limits In EC?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on potentially adapting my cheaty L*mons Miata to also be a mediocre EC Champcar Miata.

My question is on the fuel cell capacity limits.

Can I use my larger-than-allowed-by-the-rules fuel cell without displacement balls if I run in EC?

My apologies if this question has come up a bunch in the past.  I did search but didn't find an answer in the first several pages of results.

2.2.4. EC vehicles must meet all ChampCar rules and regulations for vehicle eligibility.

9.10.2. Total fuel capacity, including all fillers and overflows, shall not exceed the OEM stated fuel capacity for the make/model plus two (2) gallons. This applies to cars equipped with OE fuel tanks and to cars with approved fuel cells

Eligibility is defined in section 2.1  (no kit cars, curb weight limit, etc.)

EC cars do not need to meet the fuel capacity requirements of section 9.

Safety requirements must be met.

Ha ha, it was a little joke.  :)

I gather there are some/many teams who run both and look forward to potentially joining this series.

If you were A class speed, you may be more then mediocre here.

No black flags for 2 off, try not to step 4 off more then a couple times and we are good.  Install a window net, move or add a kill switch to center dash/console,get approved number panels, apply required sponsor stickers... no need to cover up any bribe paint and try to take the loosest/largest thematic element off.... WIN!

Yeah, we are class A all the way.  Hopefully we can keep up with most of the field.

All of that sounds good.  I have to add a dash bar too but was planning on redoing the center console and wiring anyway so the bar will just be wrapped up in all of that.

Thanks!
