I have two 84 vett in the yard, one automatic (cut up to make a rat rod) the other is mostly complete personal barn find (bought almost 25 yrs ago and stuffed in storage to keep the other running) it's a 4+3, how can I determine if one of them has the stiff springs?

Should be a sticker that looks like this somewhere:

RPO Code Question - CorvetteForum - Chevrolet Corvette Forum Discussion

Should also be able to get your option list from the VIN.

Yeah, one of the cars might barely have its vin, the other I need the location to look for the rpo codes, honestly, if there were a way to verify visually or measure it would be easier.

Under one of the storage lids or the console lid, also on top of the gas tank.

"According to the Parts and Illustration Catalog from GM for the 1984-1989 Chevrolet Y Cars

The spring CODE is: for your 1984 Z51 front spring; BMB PART#:14045782

The 85 Z51 CODE can be either: FHU, HMR, or HLA, with the latter 2 being the codes for 1986-87 Z51 also. These springs are about 30+% softer than your present spring. The FHU was one of the codes for the 1984 base model(read FE7) front spring. Part #'s were: 14080186, 14106617 respectively.

The 1985-87 Base Model(read FE7) Front Spring CODE was: HKX or HMP. The Part # was: 14094458. This was a Y07 Car.

The 1986-87 Y67 Car had a Base model(FE7) Front spring Code: HMN the Part # was14094457...

I hope this helps, There is a chart with spring rates and stabilzer info at:

http://temp.corvetteforum.net/c4/vader86/

Go to; Technical info and find C4 Suspension Specs."

<poop-stir>love to know how a C4 is 450, a boxster is 475....#justsayin</poop-stir>

Yeah well, How is a Boxster 475 pts when a 65-80 911 is 750 points....  Early 911's 130 hp, 72's were between 150 and 190 hp.... Even the 3.0 SC's of 1979 were only rated at 204 hp.....

Bottom line is Boxsters can be had for relatively cheap money  these days and  they want that type of car in the series.   Whether or not something like an old 911 would truely be competitive is maybe another story entirely putting aside the cost involved in running one...  But 750 pts is insane...

I guess no body has ever thought about running one so no one ever complained :)

1500 pts for a 85 :)

I would think a 550pts 1996 Corvette would smoke it.
