Anyone have full race experience with Hawk ER-1?

We ran these on a Friday prior to a 24hr race in a friend's car and decided to take them off based on the wear rate we saw during the test sessions.

We're they bedded in and cooled back to ambient before beating on them?  Hawks wear really quick if not pre bedded.

Considering changing over from Pagid RS29 to Hawk ER-1, possibly for Daytona. Anyone have feedback on the compound & wear? I've seen some Trackday and 3-4hr data but really looking to connect with someone who's put the hard yards on them.

Thanks in Advance.

Whats your reason to change pads?

I couldn't say, the car did a few trips around the block before going in the trailer, but not sure when those pads got installed. We just ended up going back to the ST4? That we has been using previously with no complaints.

That said, I have never seen what you describe with dozens of sets of Hawk Blue pads under my belt on my own car (which is part of what I love about them). I wonder if their "newer" compounds are different.

Huh.  The blues are the ones I have the most experience and issues with.  That is what we run.

If we don't bed them in, we get about 6 to 10 hours out of a set.  Bedded in we get 24 to 30.

Curiosity, cost, accessibility. Given the trouble it can be to get the good stuff in my shape, I want good options. I'm already running one of the 2 widely accepted "right answers" for stopping, so not worried about some sort of silver bullet. Hawk has spent a good bit of effort sorting this compound out so I'd be foolish to not have look if I could save $100 a set w/o a performance hit.

Honestly... brake bedding is real. There's a loop around my neighborhood that will see some aggressive stopping before on the trailer for FL in March. Pagid actually gives you an index card with the proper process to put in the car.

Porsche+Pagid=great brake performance. Find best compound for your driving style and best wear combination. Hawk not recommended

Of course.

They only came out within the past 3-4 months and many havent been able to get hands on them yet.

Yes, but there are rumors that there were successful or possibly positive results from teams in CC and 'moonlighters' in other series. Can't hurt to ask.

Has anyone tried the Hawk Blue 42s?

I have a few sets of Blues that are around 60% worn from a weekend of racing because I didn't want to replace pads on Saturday night.

The ST-43s are lasting three weekends but don't have much feel which has resulted in a few flat-spotted tires. Almost the same running cost when the pads and tires are combined.

Side note: Rivals and R-S4s recover quicker from a lock-up and with less damage than R1Rs and Z3s.

We run ST43's for 2 weekends with test days. Last set went 34hrs and still had 6-8 left in them I bet. That is hard to turn away from.

Unless you want to turn and brake at the same time. ;)

P.S. I'm not going to toss the STs just yet but I'm looking forward to trying something else.

Similar experience.  It is a pretty dramatic difference.

I've been spoiled on PFC08. Bedding? How about put on fresh pads and rotors and go out for the test day. Run some easy laps. Pads are now bedded. We haven't had problems (brake shake / pad transfer / poor wear) ever.

Every car I have driven with the pfc08 has had great brakes.

Unfortunately, when I asked about getting some made for the rx7, I was quoted over $400 for a set for the front...

Uh, no.  No thank you.

PFC is a pain to work with compared to (our sponsors) Hawk or Raybestos/Porterfield.

The gent at PFC that understood enduro racing unfortunately passed away a few years back and the interaction with them has not been the same since.  They are primarily an "OEM" brake pad manufacturer, so the pads they make for race cars are just snuck in on the line.  Unless there is a huge demand they won't make pads in specific shapes on a one-off basis.

They make EVERY compound in the world for my 7420/7416 pad shape BUT 08 and there is no amount of talking to them which will change that....   They are making money hand over fist selling street car brake pads by the truckload so theres no incentive.
