Guest tr4racer
We only ran for 40 minutes in ButtonWillow. Engine started to make horrific noise. Listen to it start around Phil Hill, and just get worse. As you can see from the graphs, we hit a top speed of a whopping 60mph. How could we expect it to hold up under such extreme conditions. Guest cheseroo
That's what you get for putting a rebuilt top end on it. Should have left the whole thing crappy
bobr
Worked on TR7's when they were new - we hated them - basically British Leyland raided the parts bins to create an even worse Austin Marina with a fancy body. They used to start on fire sitting on the lot waiting for yet another repair. There was nothing on the car that wasn't a disaster - one of the worst British cars ever - this is a true "crap can" - you are brave to try to drive one never mind race it.Don't just swap out the running gear - replace everything!!!! Ogren-Engineering
The 5spd cars have the big rear axle and can take some power. With decent brakes Swap in the Rover , GM 4.3 or ford 5.0 The GM /5spd is the nicest balanced of the swaps . other than the Rover /5spd. tr6driver
You guys just keep on thinking poorly of TR7's...we'll surprise you next year Meanwhile, we'll keep on with the "one worse" (7-1 = 6) TR6...

skierman64
The TR7 guys that ran Road America put a Ford Ecotec 4 banger in their car. It ran like a champ, although the engine stuck out through the hood a bit.
Segeltorp
Ford Ecotec? If you should go with a US engine in a British car, wouldn't you at least want to use something with a good cultural connection? Let me see, once had a Jensen Interceptor that used a Chrysler 440 three carb engine. Now, with that engine in the TR7 there would be no time to develop any failures, all the time would be spent fueling in the pit lane. Problems solved! (I did once fill 20 Gallons after having driven less than 100 miles - admittedly winter time and a very short commute but still quite a bit. Wonder what it would consume out on a track?) tr6driver
I would like to watch (from a distance) a TR7/440 combo try to stop from speed with stock TR7 brakes. From a L-O-N-G way away. And definitely not if it's headed towards me!
