Hey there Chumps!

Yesterday, Saturday, we had a great race. The track started out wet, but there was no precipitation of measure throughout the race day. As such the Chumps enjoyed a dry track for 6.5 of the 7 hours. The racing was fast, clean, and safe.

Saturday's Podium was all-Canadian -

1st - #71 - Shift Autosport - VW Jetta 2.0ABA

2nd - #10 - Martini Racers - VW Golf 2.0ABA

3rd - #99 - Eh! Team - Honda CRX

Today, Sunday, has been a mirror regarding the weather. The night time rain and goose-poop has cleared and chumps are enjoying more dry track! We had a self-inflicted incident where Car 23, a Nissan 300ZX of Red Square racing spun into the wall rather hard. Driver is OK, car was decimated.

Stay tuned to the live timing, and check back here for results, awards, and raw data :).

Some interesting racing this afternoon. We did have an unfortunate incident where a vehicle, car 43, chose not to obey a red flag. Upon further review with the Chief Steward Ms. Cathy McCause, the vehicle was ejected from the race.

We're currently at an hour and 15 to go, on full course yellow. Car 99 lost a wheel and is a difficult pickup for the wrecker. They had been in podium contention all day. It will be interesting to discover the root cause of that failure. Driver is OK.

Team Martini Racers is almost home. We had a great weekend but not without struggles. The right front strut failed early in the race on Saturday causing major camber, car hated turning right. We drove through it only to find that the strut mount had cracked and was separating. Upon further inspection after the race, we found that the left side was doing the same.

Thank you so much to the Corner Workers Revenge Team for helping us out and welding up the cracked/damaged struts so we could run Sunday.

Sunday was better but the alignment was off and again, difficult to drive. We did our best to stay consistent. We put our fastest driver in the last 2 hours with a full tank and minimal brakes. While we were running 5th, #99, who we ran hard with all weekend broke a front hub and #71 had damaged rear stub axle. We were able to move up a couple spots. Our driver got us to 2nd place. Radioing in with 10 minutes to go, he told us he had next to no brakes. Nursing it home and with us watching the team behind us we kept 2nd position. The brake caliper finally let go driving down pit lane to post inspection! We drove the Hell out of the car. This was our hardest race yet.

Hard luck for Team Wu-Chan Clan this weekend.

Our engine only lasted 90min into our first ever chumpcar race.

Oiling appears to have been the main culprit, precipitated by what may have been poor containment in the oem pan, in conjunction with a leak "somewhere".

Data logs indicate severe drops in pressure in the longer duration corners, particularly the last one before the main straight.

Oil in the coolant indicates head gasket went at some point, not sure what went first and how though.

*Drained and found the coolant was actually looking good. Hmm.

But the amount of oil all over the transaxle (outside), and generally the driver side of the engine bay, is rather perplexing.

Any thoughts and advice from other Neon campaigners welcomed!

Otherwise it was a great experience to come down and at least get a few laps in. (though I personally didn't get any :( )

Thought the Chumps were great folks and the event seemed really well organized.

Learned a lot, especially about what more we needed to do in preparation.

BIG congrats to the top three teams -fellow Canadians at that! Guess Canada need a dose of bad luck along with the good.

Congrats as well to BOC Racing, another team from North of the Wall that had a great showing for it's debut chump weekend.

This week we begin the forensics and rebuild.

See you all in Spokane.

Found video of #23 CRASH on front straight. Anyone hear what happened? Just turned and then locked up the brakes?

We were pitted next to them and what I heard was that one of the rear calipers seized and they had to pry it open later. They are from Idaho and will likely chime in when they get home. Luckily the driver was fine and the team seemed in pretty good spirits for having a destroyed car. Unfortunately they were fighting a short in the wiring the first day and didn't get a full day in either race. I look forward to pitting next to you guys and your next car!

I found our view of the crash..

1st - #71 - Shift Autosport - VW Ghetta 2.0ABA

It was actually a 2 door Jetta that weighs less than a 4 door and it had a 2.0L 16V Passat motor in it. ;) Hence the ~4 seconds a lap faster than the fast ABA cars out there. Well, part of the reason, anyway. The chassis is also very well set up and the drivers are great, too! Same team that's done decently with the underpowered Omni in the past.

We had one of our best race weekends yet but had a couple of unfortunate events that took us off the podium on both days. The driving out there was GREAT by almost every team, best wheel to wheel action I've ever had with so many teams.

I'll spend some time writing up our weekend later when I have more free time.

Thanks to everyone who participated in, helped organize and volunteer this great event!

Well.......we had a great time. Another race. another fried transmission. Some how they keep getting reverse selected with fourth and then binding up the linkage. Thanks to the other RX-7 team there for selling us their spare.

So, comment #2......dirt trackers turned Chumps. Not impressed. Drivers that make passes by forcing other cars of the track or into retaining walls should have a zero tolerance from the first incident. Not three damaged cars later and let them run the following day only to delay the race to fix the tire wall they destroyed. Dangerous, thoughtless driving should never be allowed.

We had a great time all and all. Ended up having to put a clutch in the first day (which of course we had no spare), and had to build and install an axle the second day. We all got to drive so no harm done. REALLY wanted rain, but with the luck we had it wouldn't have mattered.

All and all it was a good event, and we got some practice for when we break at spokane haha. just got to set to work on dry traction.
